Code Pilot
The Code Pilot is a programmable Technic brick from the Barcode Multi-Set (8479, 1997). The 12×8×4 brick has 6 AA cells, a couple of buttons, a barcode scanner / light sensor, and 2 wire contacts, and controls one motor with 2 passive inputs. Its optical input accepts both printed barcodes and VLL.
Optical input
- Barcodes — sweep a printed barcode strip past the light sensor to load an action (Barcodes (Code Pilot)). A laminated A3 sheet (
8479bar01) ships with the set. - VLL — same protocol/codebase as the Micro Scout; it can also be driven by flashing light directly.
How to control it today
- Print and scan the original barcodes, or
- Flash VLL at its sensor with any VLL emitter (FTDI DTR + LED, Arduino · ESP32 + LED, a phone torch). The adriansieber project and lego-blockly both list the Code Pilot as a VLL target.
It shares the Micro Scout's VLL codebase, so the protocol matches, though only the Micro Scout has been tested hands-on.
Programmable actions include changing motor speed, running the motor on a sensor trigger, and playing sounds.
